For this blog update, we will be tackling the wiping down of the sink and faucets, cleaning the toilet bowl and tank, along with additional deodorizing tips for keeping your toilet area smelling fresh! Grab your toilet bowl cleaners, shower and sink cleaning solutions, some paper towels or cloths, your toilet bowl brush, and let’s get to work!

Wiping Down Your Sink and Faucets

With all items removed from your sink counter top, wiping down your sink and faucet can be a breeze. Spray your cleaning solution onto the surfaces directly if your cleaning agent isn’t too abrasive and wipe down all surfaces with your cloth or paper towels. If you have a chemically strong item, we recommend spraying your cloth or paper towel with it, and then wiping down the surfaces.

Most cleaning agents will come with bleach which helps with lifting up most residue like dried toothpaste, soap scum, and other grime. Bleach will also help with the deodorizing aspect of cleaning as well.

Make sure you get all cabinets, handles, and other surfaces when initially wiping everything down. Afterwards, we recommend wiping handles on the faucet and cabinets with a disinfectant to help remove germs and bacteria on items that hands come in contact with most often.

Cleaning The Toilet Bowl and Toilet Tank

Before starting with any of the wiping down, add your toilet bowl cleaner to the inside of your toilet bowl now. For the same reason we sprayed our shower walls and fixtures early, we want to give the toilet bowl cleaner enough time to do its job! As mentioned before, this allows the toilet bowl cleaner to work on the harder stains like hard water build up, mildew stains, and grime.

Like with wiping down the sink counter tops, we’d recommend giving your toilet a good scrubbing down. The toilet bowl lid and toilet tank may not collect too much more than dirt and grime, so those areas are typically quick. However, wiping down the top and bottom of the toilet seat may require a bit more elbow grease!

Don’t Forget The Exterior Of The Toilet Bowl

After wiping down the tank, lid and toilet seat,  spray around the base sides and base of the toilet. This may require a bit more bending on your part, but you’d be surprised at the amount of dirt that can gather near the base of the toilet!

Wipe down the sides and the bottom as best as you can and now open the toilet bowl lid and lift the toilet bowl seat. Your toilet bowl brush will come in handy to help scrub the inside of the toilet bowl lip, as well as the rest of the interior of the toilet bowl.

Now that you’ve sprayed the inside of your toilet bowl with your toilet bowl cleaner earlier and given the cleaner time to dissolve built up dirt and grime, start scrubbing with your toilet brush! There can be hard water spots under the toilet bowl lip where the water comes from when you flush, so be sure to scrub there thoroughly as well. We recommend doing this once a week to reduce the amount of water spot buildup, which can lead to obvious discoloration under the toilet bowl lip.

A Deodorizing Tip For Toilet Bowls and Toilet Tanks

A cool trick for keeping your toilet smelling fresh for longer is to add a half cup of baking soda to your toilet tank. The baking soda will absorb and eliminate odors that may be coming from your toilet tank. The reason we use baking soda is because baking soda is gentle and won’t ruin your toilet tank like using a deodorizer or toilet bowl cleaner can.

For the same reason, you can actually squeeze a lemon in your toilet tank to give that lemon fresh smell. Like baking soda, lemon is very gentle when it comes to it’s deodorizing affects and will not cause damage to your toilet tank.

Additionally, add half a cup of white vinegar to the toilet bowl as well. The white vinegar will help prevent the mildew streaks that can happen near the toilet bowl lip and hard water deposits. With this, you have effectively cleaned and deodorized one of the biggest problem areas in your bathroom! Congratulations! Now, on to the next!

For the next blog update, we’ll be cleaning our shower and bathtubs, offering clogging advice and finally mopping the floors!
