The idea of cleaning the bathroom can be a dreadful nightmare for most home owners. The amount of dirt, grime, oils, and other residues that build up due to daily use can seem daunting when it’s time to deep clean. However, we hope to wipe away those fears quite literally!

With this guide, we’ll be teaching you how to deep cleaning each item in your bathroom. You can be assured that all of your bathroom will be looking spotless and sparkling clean!

For this deep cleaning session on your bathroom, you’re going to need your cleaning solution spray bottles for sinks, showers, toilet bowl cleaners of your choice, paper towels, a shower brush, your broom, your mop, and a toilet brush. If you wish to wash your plastic shower curtains, we also recommend getting baking soda. With these items, you should be able to make your bathroom sparkle!

Remove All Items From Your Bathroom

First order of business is to remove all of the small items and objects from your bathroom. Remove your soap dispensers, toothbrushes, and any other items that are taking up space on your sink counter. This also includes removing any bathroom mats or toilet mats that you may have.

For cleaning your bathroom mats or rugs, you can use your washing machine. For most bathroom mats, we recommend using cold water and a gentle laundry detergent when you run your washing cycle. Hot water or just excessive heat in general can damage your rubber or plastic backed bathroom rugs, so we recommend hanging them to dry.

If you wish to clean your plastic shower curtains, you can actually throw them into your washing machine as well! Toss them into your washing machine with towels, along with half of a cup of both detergent and baking soda. Use the normal cycle and warm water and watch your shower curtains come out looking brand new!

Sweep and Dust Your Bathroom

Now that you have removed all the items in your bathroom and put your bathroom rugs or shower curtains into the wash, you can focus on sweeping and dusting! We’re going to be using the top to bottom technique in the bathroom to make sure we get all of the dust and grime build up taking care of!

Using an extended duster allows you to get the dust off of higher light fixtures that otherwise may have been out of reach. Another place that can collect dust and grime is the top of the toilet tank. You can choose to dust this item or just wait until later when you are wiping down the rest of the bathroom!

Spray Your Cleaning Products On The Shower Walls Before Starting Anything Else

We recommend spraying your shower and shower walls with your cleaning solution before doing any real cleaning. Spraying your shower cleaning solution on the walls, shower head, and in the tub portion allows for the solution to really do its thing.

When you let the solution sit for some time, you allow it more time to break down the dirt, grime and oil build up that may be there. This also allows you to work a bit less when wiping it down later!

Tackle your bathtub and shower by spraying from top to bottom. The areas with a lot more build up may need to be sprayed again when you return to fully wipe these locations.

If you have any shower racks or shelves, be sure to spray these as well. The shower racks or shelves can build up soap scum, grime, and mildew so it’s important to clean these items as well.

Let’s Clean Those Bathroom Mirrors

Before we get to tackling the sink counter top or the toilet bowl, we will be wiping down your bathroom windows. Your bathroom mirror can collect dirt, grime, and water spots from being close to your sink. It’s very easy to splash water from washing your face, brushing your teeth, or even washing your hands, leaving those unsightly streaks on your mirror!

When washing your bathroom mirror, just lightly mist the mirror cleaning agent onto your mirror. If you use too much solution, it can leave smudges or streaks after you’ve finished wiping with the paper towels.

Just like with the whole cleaning technique of all rooms in your home, we’re approaching the mirror with the top to bottom method. Wipe your mirror from top to bottom, using side to side wipes. If you notice any smudges, lightly mist that area with your mirror cleaner and re-wipe in the same manner.

For the next part of this blog series, we will be finally wiping down the sink and toilet bowl!
