For this section, we’ll be going over how to deep clean your oven interior and oven racks. Cleaning the interior of your oven is one of the more intricate cleaning activities to do in a kitchen and will require a good amount of time. Depending on how much grime and food reside that’s built up in your oven, we’d recommend setting aside 10 to 12 hours for this entire process.
Cleaning Your Oven Interior And Oven Racks
An oven can be one of the tougher items in your kitchen to thoroughly clean. Set aside a good amount of time to allow for a real deep cleaning of your oven. You’re going to need heavy duty cleaning gloves, a microfiber cloth, a high abrasive pad, white vinegar, baking soda and water! For your oven interior, mix 1 cup of baking soda with 1/3rd cup of water. You want this concoction to make a paste, similar to the consistency of pancake batter.
After putting on your gloves, we recommend coating the inside of your oven with baking soda and water using your fingertips. Make sure that you pull out the oven racks coat the sides and bottom of your oven with this concoction. Make sure to really coat heavy areas of grim and food remnants as well.
With this method, we’d recommend letting the concoction sit for an hour or longer, depending on how much grime is built up in your oven. For ovens in need of a lot of love, we’d even recommend letting it sit for up to 12 hours.
While you’re waiting for your oven’s cleaning paste to do it’s thing, put the oven racks into your kitchen sink. If they do not fully fit, you can try using your bathtub. You’ll need to be able to fully submerge these oven racks in water.
Sprinkle baking soda on the oven racks and pour the vinegar on the racks afterwards. This will cause a cool fizzing and foaming effect. When the foaming and fizzing stops, plug up your sink or bathtub and run hot water until the oven racks are fully submerged. We’d recommend letting these sit for a few hours, or even overnight depending on the amount of grime on them. Just like with the oven, the longer you let them sit, the more thorough of a job the concoction will do!
Once you’re ready to clean the oven, take a damp cloth and make sure you get up all of the remaining paste along with grime and food residue. If there are some sticky or tough spots, use your high abrasive pad. If that doesn’t work, spray some vinegar to help release that dirt. Just like with the oven racks, the vinegar and baking soda will foam. Take your damp cloth and retry removing the grime as this should make it easy to clean. If you are someone who uses the oven often, we’d recommend deep cleaning your oven every 2 to 3 months to make sure old food residue and grime isn’t mixing with what you’re cooking! Yuck!
