This is the final part for the first time home buyer guide on bedroom cleaning tips. We’ll be cleaning the furnishings in the bedroom and finishing with vacuuming and cleaning the floor. Get those microfiber cloths, dust mops, and vacuums ready to go. We are on the home stretch!
Wiping Down Dressers, Lamps, and Nightstands
Now that we’ve finished with the windows, we can wipe down the dressers, lamps and nightstands. If you have any lamps we recommend wiping those down first with a damp cloth while they are turned off. Also wipe again with a dry cloth to make sure you have removed any excess moisture as you do not want to damage your lamp or cause any issues when you turn the lamp back on!
What to use for cleaning your dressers, end tables or side tables depends on the materials your side tables are made of. If you have wood materials in your end tables, we recommend using a wood-approved cleaner that won’t leave behind any ghosting or watermarks.
If you have to use water to wipe down these tables, be sure to remove all excess moisture to avoid damaging the wood. Depending on the finish, water marks may require professional assistance with removing, so we really want to make sure we don’t create any of those during our cleaning process!
Clean out and remove in clutter in the drawers of your nightstands if you haven’t already. It’s very easy for trash to find it’s way inside the drawers, as well as dust mites!
The Last Step: Cleaning The Floor!
Depending on if your bedroom has carpet, hardwood, or tile, you’ll want to make sure you give your floor a good cleaning! If you have carpet, you will not need to mop your floor but you may need to sprinkle baking soda to remove any odors.
After sprinkling baking soda on your carpet, we recommend letting it set for about an hour before you vacuum. This way, you’re giving the baking soda enough time to absorb the odors!
If you have a hardwood or tile flooring, you’ll want to sweep up any dust before you decide to move on to the next step. Like with other wood furniture, you’ll want to be very careful about mopping and leaving excess water on your floor. A dust mop with a non abrasive cleaner specifically for wood surfaces can replace mopping a hardwood floor.
Alternatively, if you have a tile floor we recommend sweeping thoroughly to remove any dust and then mopping. Once you mop the floor, let it air dry without any foot traffic to get the best results. Once you’re done with the mopping, your bedroom is now finished!
We hope these tips have helped you with organizing and cleaning your bedroom! We recommend deep cleaning your bedroom at least once a month depending on where you live. If your home seems to attract more dust, we recommend a deep clean every two weeks! Be sure to check out more cleaning tips for other rooms as well!
