Now that we have dealt with the overall clutter of the bedroom, we can get ready to do a deep clean! Removing all of the clothes, small trash, and organizing the closet will help with your ability to navigate your room and take care of problem areas!

Dusting the Ceiling and Cleaning The Ceiling Fan

As mentioned before, be sure to clean from top to bottom. Starting with the ceiling and ceiling fan if you have one, use an extended duster to reach those corners and other hard to reach areas. A ceiling fan that regularly collects dust can spread those dust mites on the ceiling around it as well, so make sure you get those areas thoroughly.

For the ceiling fan blades, we recommend cleaning each blade with a damp cloth to remove any excess and stubborn dust that has collected on both sides. Depending on the type of ceiling fan you have, you can use scented non abrasive cleaners to give your room a nice aroma as well. For example, if you have wooden ceiling fan blades, you can use lemon Pledge to wipe down the blades.

If you have air vents into the room for central air or air conditioner units, make sure you wipe down those as well. The vents naturally create a good place for dust to accumulate, so we recommend wiping these down frequently. Just like with the ceiling fan, use a damp wet cloth for wiping down your air vents. If you really want to be thorough, you can remove the vent cover with a screwdriver and clean the harder to reach areas of the vent cover.

If you want to add an extra fresh smell to your room and other rooms of the house, we recommend using scented dryer sheets on the vents. You’ll have to remove the vent covers and place the dryer sheet on the inside. Keep in mind that your dryer sheets will need to be replaced every so often as they will dry out. We recommend changing them every week or two.

Spot Cleaning The Walls

You may have several reasons why you need to clean the walls. Maybe you had a small spill of a sticky beverage or have children that just learned how wonderful markers are. In any case, you’ll want to make sure you clean your wall without damaging the paint.

We recommend taking a damp cloth and dabbing the problem area. Try not to wipe across the surface of the wall, as you can remove paint that way. When you’ve removed the substance from the wall, we recommend blotting it dry to remove any excess moisture as well.

If you have paintings or posters in your bedroom, you may need to dust behind them. Paintings with frames tend to collect dust as well, so make sure you run a damp cloth with just water around the frame. Try not to use too much water, as the water can get behind the frame in certain areas and damage the painting itself.

Cleaning Windows, Mirrors and Window Sills

Now that you’ve already cleaned the ceiling and walls, we can focus on the windows, mirrors, and window sills! For windows, using a typical glass cleaner like Windex works fine with cleaning smudges and fingerprints off of them. If you can remove the screen in your window safely, we recommend also washing the outside of your window as well.

The window sill can collect a lot of dirt, grime, and dust depending on if you keep windows open regularly. We recommend taking a cleaning agent and a cloth to wipe down the window sill to remove the dirt and dust. Afterwards, run a dry cloth over the sill to remove any excess water.

If you have a mirror in your bedroom, this is a good time to clean it as well. Cleaning a mirror is a bit different than washing windows, as you want to minimize streaks as much as possible after cleaning. Also, most mirrors have frames as well, so you want to reduce the amount of excess cleaner getting in between the frame and glass.

For cleaning a mirror while also keeping it free of streaks and fingerprints, we recommend using a microfiber cloth. Using a microfiber cloth also removes the chance that lint from a paper towel will be left behind on your mirror.

Be sure not to use too much glass cleaner when you spray your mirror. You want to only mist your mirror with a spray in each area and then clean from top to bottom. Wipe in a zig-zag like motion from the top corner of your mirror to the bottom corner of your mirror. If you notice any streaks or smudges, wipe that area and the area below it again
