For the next part of the first time home buyer series, we will be giving bedroom cleaning tips. Fortunately, cleaning the bedroom can be less of a project than larger rooms like the living room. However, this can also be the room that has the most clutter and requires some executive decision making on items that need to stay or go.

Just like with the living room, we recommend cleaning from top to bottom, especially if you are going to do a deep clean. This means dusting the ceiling corners, ceiling fan and ceiling light fixtures first before vacuuming the floors. However, before we start with dusting, we must get rid of the clutter! Part 1 will be mostly about how to get rid of clutter and organizing your clothes and closet areas!

Remove Trash From Your Room And Strip The Bed

To save you some heartache and give you space to work, we recommend removing all clutter or small trash from your bedroom before getting started. This can make it easier to wipe down your bedside tables and your window sills if they are packed with stuffed animals! This also makes it easier to navigate your room, locate problem areas, and deal with them accordingly.

When it comes to dealing with trash, we’d recommend a small trash bin to help deal with small items. This helps remove the chance of trash being on your side tables or dressers when a trash bin is nearby and always in arms reach. You’ll really see how much easier it’ll be to clean your bedroom again when the trash issue is already taken care of!

Strip your bed and pillows of the linens and pillow cases, as well as the comforter if that also needs cleaning. While you should get into the practice of washing your sheets and pillow cases regularly, comforters do not need to be washed as often. Since we’re doing a bit more than just some spring cleaning, we’ll be cleaning the mattress as well!

Dirty Clothes and Clean Clothes Can Cause Issues!

Dealing with any and all clothes on the floor can help with getting rid of additional clutter as well. We recommend taking care of dirty clothes. If you do not have a hamper of some sort, we highly recommend getting one. Nothing screams “this room is dirty” like clothes all over the place! If you can take the time to take care of the dirty clothes, you’ll also reduce the chance that your bedroom will have an odor.

If you have any clean clothes that haven’t been put away, this is a good time to do so. If you haven’t taken the time to organize your closet, make sure you do that first. Once your closet is neat and tidy, it’ll be easier to keep it that way when you hang up more clean clothes. Make sure you try to keep a system in place for your closet so it does not become disorganized.

In general, we recommend trying to keep a habit of staying on top of your clothes. Establish a system where you always put dirty clothes in the hamper or bin, and always fold and put clean clothes away. Nothing quite makes a room feel smaller, small weirder, and look dirtier than clothes all over the place!
